LEOPARD Second Annual Meeting and General Assembly Announced
The LEOPARD consortium held its second Annual Meeting in Valencia, Spain, from 18–19 June 2026, hosted by the HULAFE team.
Annual Meeting Recap and Work Package Updates
WP1 | Laying the Groundwork
WP1 has made steady progress towards building a harmonised European pre-transplant dataset for LEOPARD. Since October 2025, the multicentre Training and Validation Data Collection Study (TVDCS) has expanded across seven European countries, with regulatory approvals, site initiation and patient recruitment well underway. Continued work on data harmonisation and quality assurance is helping to create the robust clinical dataset needed for the next phase of model development.
WP2 | Advancing Clinical Validation
Work in WP2 has focused on establishing the LEOPARD prospective validation cohort (PVC1), bringing together clinical, imaging and biobanking data from centres across Europe. Over recent months, progress has been made in study implementation, regulatory approvals, site monitoring and data collection, ensuring the project is well positioned for future validation studies.
WP3 | Building the LEOPARD Data Platform
The LEOPARD data platform continues to take shape, with ongoing integration and harmonisation of clinical and imaging data from across the consortium. The launch of the Adept data and analysis portal provides partners with secure access to high-quality datasets, while GDPR-compliant infrastructure and FAIR data principles ensure the platform is both robust and sustainable.
WP4 | Developing the Predictive Models
WP4 reached an important milestone with the completion of the first interim analysis of the prospective development cohort. The analyses provide valuable insights into patient characteristics, data quality and waiting-list outcomes, informing the development of the predictive models that will be tested and refined in the next stages of the project.
WP5 | Preparing for Model Validation
As the project moves closer to validation, WP5 has been preparing the datasets and analytical framework needed to evaluate LEOPARD's predictive models. Alongside validating the AI algorithms against existing liver allocation scores, the team is also assessing novel OMICS and radiomics signatures that could further improve transplant decision-making.
WP6 | Sharing Progress Across Europe
WP6 has continued to strengthen LEOPARD's visibility through communications, dissemination and stakeholder engagement. Highlights include growing the project's online community, publishing newsletters, presenting LEOPARD at international congresses and expanding engagement with patients and key stakeholders, while work has also begun on activities to support future exploitation of the project's results.
WP7 | Coordinating the Project
Behind the scenes, WP7 has ensured the project continues to run smoothly. Over the past months, the team has coordinated consortium meetings, supported technical and financial reporting, managed grant agreement updates and maintained close collaboration with project partners and the European Commission, providing the framework needed to keep LEOPARD on course.
